5G Is Here. What Does That Mean For Network Operations?

5G and IoT platforms are growing more complex. As such, service providers are increasingly turning to cognitive technologies such as AI and robotic process automation in their telecom network operations. Is this hype or just plain common sense?

Putting Business Purpose At The Heart Of Your Network: SD-WAN In The Enterprise

Ask any urban planner or urban development organization about reinvigorating a downtown area, and you’ll soon come up against the inherent problem that regeneration projects face: infrastructure. That analogy holds good, too, for modern, digitally-driven businesses. The network infrastructures that even the most technologically-fluent company own were probably planned and laid maybe a dozen or so years ago, and they are no longer providing the type of services that the business needs. Software-defined wide area networks (SD-WANs) help IT departments provide for today’s demands by using a network framework fit for tomorrow.

How AIOps Will Be The Next Big Thing In Networking

The network revolution is happening right now! In this digital era, organizations are trying to make the right decisions on their digital initiatives to stay ahead in the game. Hence, it is not surprising to see all the remarkable advancements that the year 2020 holds around technologies such as 5G, SD-WAN, Edge computing, Wifi-6, etc. But what we need to realize is any technology is only as good as the way it’s managed, period.

How SD-WAN Is Ending The “Tyranny Of The Boxes” For Financial Services

Software-defined networking (SDN) offers the ability to end the “tyranny of the boxes,” allowing critical networking functions to be performed virtually. SDN enables financial services organizations move to modern networking environments built for today’s digital, internet-dependent economy, delivering simplicity, ease-of-use and lower total cost of ownership. It frees IT staff and resources from labor-intensive hardware support and allows them to be redirected to functions that more directly support the organizations’ core business.

What Are The Benefits To SD-Branch?

The benefits of SD-branch technology include improved security, advanced network visibility, and simplified LANs. Benefits are dependent on how SD-branch improves the branch location LAN and how the LAN connects to the larger SD-WAN and internet. SD-branch expands the virtualization principles of SD-WAN and brings software-definition into branch locations at the edge of the network. When an SD-branch installation is deployed, fixed-function networking appliances are replaced with virtual network functions (VNFs) deployed on multi-function appliances.

AWS Applies Machine Learning To Optimize Cloud Deployments

Amazon Web Services (AWS) this week at its re:Invent 2019 conference unfurled two tools based on machine learning algorithms to optimize cloud application deployments. Amazon CodeGuru is a service available as a preview, through which the cloud service provider will inspect application code using machine learning algorithms to profile the code and then identify bottlenecks and what part of that code is the most expensive to run on the AWS cloud. AWS Compute Optimizer, meanwhile, identifies optimal Amazon EC2 instance types, including those that are a part of Auto Scaling groups, for specific types of workloads.

How To Stop Failing At DevOps

Although more than 60 percent of organizations have adopted DevOps at some level, according to Forrester, many continue to struggle with it. One reason: DevOps isn’t a hard-coded set of practices or principles, and this often leads to confusion and uncertainty, from the IT trenches all the way up to the C-suite. This confusion is exacerbated by deep-rooted, conventional attitudes that are at cross-purposes with the lean/Six Sigma methodologies that formed the inspiration for DevOps. Just like the manufacturing firms that were trying to become lean a half a century ago, many existing software organizations don’t have the innate flexibility to reset their attitudes.

SMBs Struggle With Digital Transformation

It’s a cliché, but it’s as true now as ever: The only constant in business is change. Digital transformation efforts are as essential for small and mid-sized businesses as they are for large enterprises—and SMBs are engaged in their transformative efforts for largely the same reasons as large enterprises: to engage more effectively with customers, streamline business processes and improve productivity.
